Horse Camp Counselor
Be a Horse Camp Counselor This Summer
June 2 - 4, 2017
Summer horse camps are always looking for good camp counselors who know their basic horsemanship skills, how to teach, and how to take responsibility for their students and horses. NWNHC offers a Horse Camp Counselor Certificate that aspiring counselors can use to prove their skills.
You will spend 17 hours, over three days, in an intensive class learning advanced horsemanship skills, horse care and feeding, basic first aid, job responsibility, and teaching skills. The class will prepare you to be a valued counselor at any horse camp. A passing grade is required to earn a certificate.
The class is open to students 14 -18 years old with basic horsemanship experience and a passion for teaching others. Class starts after school on Friday and goes through the weekend.
About the Instructor: Jim Hutchins is the director of education for the Northwest Natural Horsemanship Center and has been the NWNHC camp director since 2010. "Hutch" served as a Boy Scout camp counselor in his youth and has been guiding and training horse camp counselors for many years. He also heads the NWNHC Kids Club and teaches and trains students and horses.
